Reviewer: Greg (Seattle, WA)

This was an upgrade for my Bushmaster XM15 patrol rifle.
I survived for years with a surefire attached to the forearm with electrical tape, but I was ready to switch and also go to an LED.
CDP sent the BLAM the same day I ordered it and it arrived in several days.
Well designed and nicely machined product. It mounted quickly and easily and provides a stable mount for the TLR-1. The light switch can be activated with the index finger, and there is still full access to the hand guard.
I wanted to keep it simple, sturdy, and affordable.
This is a great alternative to a handguard with rails.

Reviewer: JW Poe, Sr. (Lawton, OK)

April 17, 2010.
I would like to offer this review about my purchase experience with Custom Defensive Products and the BLAM, (bayonet lug accessory mount).

I was looking for a solid under barrel way to mount a Steamlight TLR2s to a DPMS Panther A4. The TLR2s suited my need for night illumination and a laser targeting aid to the iron sights.

A rail type hand guard is a bit much when you only have one item to attach. Attaching anything to the front sight to me clutters your field of view while using the iron sights. The only options left are using a bayonet lug mount, or a rail attached to the barrel.

I really don't want anything attached to the barrel if there are other options. Now I was back to the bayonet lug mount option. There are only a few on the market.

I ran across the CDP BLAM and the big thing that stood out was this thing has two attachment points and a dual sided sling attachment point or one without.

Since the front sling attachment must be removed to attach the BLAM I decided I wanted the BLAM with the sling attachment.

Now to my experience with CDP.
1. The website had great photos of different lights attached to the BLAM including one of the TLR2.
2. I place my order on 4/12/10 from CDP California. On 4/14/10 by regular mail it was in my mailbox in Oklahoma!!
3. It took less than 10 minutes to install, that included opening the package and getting a pair of needle nose pliers to remove the front sling attachment.
4. The BLAM is ROCK SOLID, the edges are rounded, it is light weight and the finish is great.

The service is great, I could not be more pleased.

FAQs

Ask a question about this product.

Q: When I mounted the BLAM on my rifle, it is not parallel with the barrel.
It seems to be tilted upward toward the muzzle.
Can I get one that is aligned evenly with the barrel?

A: Being designed primarily for Close Quarter Battle situations, both of our mounts were specifically designed and intended to have a slightly upward angle variation of about 12 to 15 degrees when mounted.
It is a functional necessity of the design to allow for the correct alignment of the sights to be nearest the center of the light beam at 15 to 20 yards.
The angle may vary slightly, depending on the manufacturer of the front sight base casting.
This alignment was tested using the SureFire X200A the X300, Streamlight TLR-1 and TLR-2, and the Insight M3 and M6 Tactical Illuminators.
This incorporated angle also allows for correct centering and zeroing of a laser such as on the Streamlight TLR2 or Insight M6.
If the mount remains parallel with the barrel, ANY laser mounted on the BLAM will not have enough vertical adjustment to easily bring the dot into alignment with the sights.
If it is mounted parallel with the barrel, the light will be too low on the target, below center of mass.
If you insist on having the mount parallel with the barrel, you would need to elongate the holes in the sight base clevis UPWARD, where the rear screw replaces the sling loop.
You might also have to remove material from the base of the sight tower on either side of the clevis, where the mount would contact the base, depending on the manufacturer of the sight tower itself.
When the mounts are attached to the rifle correctly and a light is attached to the mount, one does not typically notice any difference in the alignment.
If you are more concerned about how the mount "LOOKS" on your rifle than the practical functionality of the well planned, affordable design, perhaps the BLAM or BLAM2 is not for you.

Q: I have read on several forums that mounting a light at the 6:00 o'clock position on my AR will cause the light to cast a shadow on the target.
How do you address this concern?

A: Thousands of Law Enforcement Officers and operators who use these mounts, will disagree with that statement.

Mounting a weapon light on your AR at the 6:00 o'clock position on the Bayonet Lug is IDEAL for close quarter engagements out to 25 yards.

First, access to the light switch is immediate and right at the position of your support hand on the forearm of the rifle.

Second, the truth is, any shadow cast by a light mounted on a BLAM or BLAM2 will be well above the target and out of your line of vision.

Your ability to FOCUS on the front sight and the target should be developed with proper training and practice.
When you do, you won't see anything but the target.

Third, mounting lights or other items on either side of the sight tower only obstructs the line of vision covering the target. That is more of a distraction than any shadow.

Also, the size of any shadow depends on the diameter of the beam being cast by the light.

Ideally, you want a powerful, narrow beam with a bright center to illuminate the target.
The wider the beam, the more shadow will be cast.
